SMECTA® contains Diosmectite, a natural therapeutic clay that acts as a gastrointestinal muco-protection agent. Unlike medications that slow down gut movement, Smecta works by physically adsorbing (binding) toxins, bacteria, and viruses within the digestive tract, helping to shorten the duration of acute diarrhea.
- Critical Drug Interaction: Due to its powerful adsorbent nature, Smecta can interfere with the absorption of other medicines. Always wait at least 2 hours before or after taking other medications.
- Rehydration is Key: For children and adults, Smecta should always be used alongside Oral Rehydration Salts (ORS) to prevent dehydration during acute episodes.
